Some of the best years of my life were
spent at the Det in Ottawa - still have friends there. A unique memory was when
I was on the midnight watch at the USDAO post sometime in 1970, and the SgtMaj
of the Marine Corps Joseph W. Daily and our NCOIC, GySgt Greer, visited me on
post - CMC was in town, which explained the SgtMaj's presence. The SgtMaj took
30 minutes to explain to me how things were going in the Corps, and it made a
big impression on me. Another great memory was attending the New Year's Day
levee, 1972, with our NCOIC (MGySgt Trezevant) at the GovGen of Canada's
official residence - I somehow ended the day at the Sergeants' Mess of the
Governor General's Foot Guards and met their Colonel (but I don't remember how I
got back to the Marine House afterwards!). Great times.
