I can
remember that in 1983 when Jesse Jackson came to the Embassy in
Damascus, Syria. The Ambassador had worked with the Officials for
several days before he (Jesse) arrived in country to have the Navy Lt
that was shot down turned over to him(the Ambassador) early the
next morning but, his flight was delayed, and Jesse took all of the
credit for it. I was never more embarrassed as a Marine Security
Guard having to take extra security measures for a liar. We were
working extra long shifts at the Embassy and the Sheraton Hotel.
I also remember that when Ramadan ended the Nationals drove through the
streets firing off rifles and hand guns while passing around the
Embassy, we were on HIGH ALERT/ lock down for several days. |
