and
married his wife while in Brazil. Regretfully Steve died in
1996
or 1997 while vacationing with his wife in Brazil. We lost a
great Marine and MSG (Don Miller, first Shanghai MSG Det.Cmdr.).

Memorandum
of Agreement between the
U. S. Department of State (DOS) and the U. S. Marine Corps (USMC) that
beginning in 1949, the Marine Corps will provide active duty personnel
to be assigned to U.S. Diplomatic Missions worldwide to protect
Classified materials and American personnel and property.
These
detachments of Marines, to be known as Marine Security Guards (MSGs),
will report directly to a designated DOS Foreign Service Officer at
each U.S. Diplomatic Mission. Command structure was HQBn,
HQMC / RMO Region 3. A Regional Marine Officer (RMO)
was assigned to each of four regions worldwide to supervise several
MSG Detachments/Posts within each region.
