Note from MEGA Member Richard Carlisle
- William Davis Clarke was my RSO in Tokyo and
later in Paris. He was the first member of the Bureau of
Diplomatic Security to be named an Ambassador. He was
Ambassador to Eretria from June 29, 1998 till Aug 12, 2001.
Bill was truly an outstanding RSO and a huge MSG supported.
(I would have followed that man to hell and back.)
A quote from Bill's presentation to the Senate
subcommittee (for his appointment approval),
"I have served my entire career in the Department
of State's Bureau of Diplomatic Security. The mission of this Bureau is
the protection of life, property and information. It is a mission that
I believe in deeply. I have served as a Regional Security Officer in
Germany, Ivory Coast, Japan, France and Egypt, and as the Regional
Director for Security for South America in Panama. Last August, I
completed five years as the Deputy Assistant Secretary for
Countermeasures and Information Security. I believe that this
broad-based management experience qualifies me to serve as the top U.S.
envoy to Eritrea. "
